I have been very fortunate to be where I am today career-wise. At the start of 2nd year at university, it was a very worrying period for me because I had no absolute clue what I wanted to do after my degree. Do I follow the creative route (like my degree), or do I venture into other areas of the working world?
It all changed a few months later, when opportunity came knocking.
At the time of this ‘knocking’, I was stuck in a part-time, deadend, depressing role at a local supermarket – begging for an escape. The chances of a better opportunity felt very slim because of the amount of rejections I was given.
When the opportunity came, it was a route I did not anticipate and didn’t think I would be good at but something that certainly would point me in the right direction – marketing.
What inspired myself to take this nerve racking leap is my mindset to always try something new. There’s no point judging a book by the cover. If you don’t enjoy it, at least you gave it your best shot. If you do enjoy it, it certainly will be the first step on the ladder of your new career.
What I am trying to say here is if opportunity comes knocking and you are not 100% sure if its the right thing, still give it a go, because it could change your life.
